Designed in the late 19th Century, originally for German beer garden seating, it was initially a fixed chair for summer seasonal use on lawns and evolved into a foldable design that could be stored when not in use in winter.
The strap footing of the Lawn Chair prevents it from sinking into grass and gravel.
