Origami

Origami – ‘explores a take and remake ’ principal of evolving original design concepts and revitalising past manufacturing skills and techniques.

Inspired by a mid-century design of Japanese origin that dates back to 1959, it combines the aesthetics of Scandinavian minimalism and Japanese engineering. The iconic folding canvas seated chair, on a light weight tubular frame with cylindrical wooden arms, has been developed into a small collection that simultaneously lives in the shadow of and pays tribute to an acclaimed masterpiece.

It is a natural complimentary addition to our ethos of reproduction that honours a past design and ushers in a contemporary purposed line of outdoor ‘nomadic’ furniture.

The range of versatile seating Origami offers exemplifies the qualities we strive for in the furniture we make at HOPE – authentic, durable, functional and beautiful.
You will find that its unusual and elegant minimalistic form and its surprising ergonomic comfort will persuade you to … well fold it up and take it everywhere.

The lightweight tubular frame is made from 304 grade brushed stainless steel and the waxed cotton canvas seat, double stitched by a master saddle maker, is available in 7 neutral subdued colours of the land.
This variety allows you to pair the canvas of your choice with the oiled Beech or natural Jarrah cylindrical wooden arms, helping determine the character of the product that best matches the nature of its use, falling comfortably into bush camp and beach cottage alike.
A purpose made toggle device holds the chair in a folded standing stance to facilitate economic storage.

Origami…. unfold one… anywhere.
