3

After over 30 years of manufacturing a range of early 20th Century garden furniture, hope has introduced 3. A concise and limited line of contemporary outdoor furniture to compliment the hope traditional stalwarts of the past.

Designed by Adrian Hope, 3 is a eulogy to human traditional artisanal skills and the realisation of a form that reflects on the symbolic connection and innate strength of the power 3.

The inclusion of forged features gives 3 an unmistakable link to its ‘smithed’ relations in the traditional family. Intended to furnish homes, apartments and garden terraces with limited space – 3 is hope for the next generation.

Influenced by mid-century functional design, 3 strives to embody the adage attributed to the Finnish mid-century architect Alvar Aalto:

“Beauty is the harmony of purpose and form.”

The proportions based on the divisions of 3 in imperial dimensions, reflect the consideration for human scale furniture – they are quiet and purposeful …..and perhaps, even beautiful. The furniture displays apparent constructional detail and a decidedly lean Scandinavian character. In a subtle display of engineering ingenuity the realisation of the compound curves in the metal frame elevate the deceptively simple designs and imbue them with a sculptural quality.

The asymmetrical stance of the stool and round tables create an unusual visual tension that elicits a second (or is it a 3rd) look, while the symmetrical aspects of the benches and tables bring a sense of balanced grounding.
Sing praise to the triquetra, the trinity and the tripod …this is 3.
